Metallica, the American heavy metal band, is preparing to hit the road this summer with a twist—they’re rolling out on tour using electric and hydrogen fuel-cell trucks. Metallica will be utilizing IVECO’s electric and natural gas trucks and gas minibuses for shuttles during the concerts as well as hauling some of their guitars and drums with trucks powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Metallica’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint sets a hopeful example to inspire fellow artists to follow suit.
According to Jalopnik, “Metallica has allocated nearly $2 million to support Metallica scholars, including aspiring professionals in the renewables industry, such as wind turbine technicians from under-resourced schools in Texas.” When it comes to rocking hard, nothing beats renewables and reducing emissions, and it appears that Metallica agrees. Hopefully, Metallica’s actions will encourage fellow artists to take the same initiative.
